Privacy policy

This policy explains what SurplusFindr (surplusfindr.com) collects when you use the site, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions go to hey@surplusfindr.com.

What we collect

When you browse. You can use the directory without an account. Our server keeps standard request logs (IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and troubleshooting. We also count shop page views and taps on Call buttons so we can see which listings people use. Those counts are stored against the shop, not against you.

When you create an account. We store your email address, your password (as a one-way hash, so we can't read it), your display name, and the bio, location and profile photo if you add them. While you're signed in we keep a session record with your IP address and browser type so you stay signed in and so we can spot misuse.

When you post a review. Your rating, review text and photos are public on the shop's page together with your display name.

When you claim or suggest a shop. We keep the name, email address, phone number and message you send with a claim so we can confirm you own the shop. A shop suggestion includes the shop details you enter and, if you give it, your email address.

When a shop owner pays for a featured listing. PayMongo processes the payment (GCash, card, GrabPay or Maya). We never see or store card numbers. We keep the payment reference, amount and dates.

Cookies

We set two cookies of our own: a sign-in cookie, only if you log in, and a security cookie that protects our forms against forgery, which lasts up to 30 days.

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, such as which pages they view, the type of device and approximate location. Google Analytics sets its own cookies.

Advertising

We show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of some other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses data from sites like ours in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Our pages also load fonts from Google Fonts and icons from cdnjs, so those services receive your IP address when a page loads.

How we use your information

• To run the directory, your account and your reviews.
• To send account emails, such as email verification and password reset links.
• To review shop claims and suggestions.
• To block spam and abuse.
• To see which pages are useful, and to show ads.

We don't sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

Only the services that help us run the site: our hosting and email provider (Hostinger), PayMongo for payments, and Google for analytics and ads. We will also disclose information when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep account data, reviews and claims while your account exists, and delete them when you ask us to. Server logs rotate and are deleted automatically.

Your rights

Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or object to how we use it. Email hey@surplusfindr.com from the address on your account. You can change your display name, bio and location yourself on your account page. You can also file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.

Children

SurplusFindr is not aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page.
